How to capture an idea without opening your phone

The problem is often friction, not memory

A useful thought can disappear in the time it takes to unlock a phone, find the right app and decide where the note belongs. The interruption is even more noticeable while walking, cooking, carrying something or speaking with another person.

Reducing that friction does not require recording everything. It requires one reliable action at the moment something becomes worth keeping.

Use one repeatable capture pattern

State the idea in one or two complete sentences. Include the detail that will matter later: the project, person, deadline or reason. A short explicit note is easier to retrieve than a fragment with no context.

For example: “For onboarding, replace the feature tour with a three-question setup. The goal is to get a useful result in the first minute.” That preserves both the idea and why it matters.

• Name the topic or project.
• Say the idea or commitment directly.
• Add a date only when it is real, not guessed.
• Stop the recording when the moment is complete.

Let processing organize, not invent

After capture, software can propose a title, idea, task, decision or question. Those outputs should remain editable candidates linked to the words that produced them. If the system is uncertain, it should preserve the evidence rather than silently repair the meaning.

This is where an AI context layer differs from a plain voice-memo folder: the captured idea can later be found by topic and made available to an authorized assistant without copying the entire recording into a prompt.

Avoid replacing capture friction with review friction

A capture tool should not demand a daily feed, streak or inbox ritual just to prove it is useful. Review is valuable when the system needs a correction, a privacy choice or help recovering a failed transfer.

BEFORE’s companion app is therefore designed as a bridge and control surface. Normal value should appear in the AI workspace the user already uses, while the app remains available for setup, review, access history, correction and deletion.

What still has to be proven

BEFORE targets capture from the bracelet while the phone is absent, with later transfer through the iPhone bridge. That is a hardware acceptance requirement, not a capability we treat as proven from a supplier listing.

Until registered physical samples pass recording, storage, retrieval and recovery gates, the honest description is an offline-capture target. The software-only development path can validate the workflow, but it cannot substitute for hardware evidence.
